OVERVIEW OF PSI Prediction Systems, Inc., (PSI), was founded in 1974 as a privately held, owner-managed engineering company, specializing in the technology of modeling and simulation. The company helps clients build and test real-time prediction and control systems. PSI’s clients are typically developing complex communication and control systems. Models of these systems must contain sufficient detail to provide an accurate representation of the system dynamics. As a result, the models become correspondingly complex. To meet its clients needs, PSI uses a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) environment that significantly cuts the time and cost to build models and run simulations. Since
1982, PSI has concentrated on developing models of communication and control
systems using discrete-event simulation.
PSI has helped its clients to analyze, design, test, implement and
support real time systems. These
systems include network management of wireless communication systems, where
all nodes are moving and connectivity is in constant change. They also include planning tools for sensor
systems, weapon systems, and the automated control systems that aid in making
fast decisions. Many of today’s automated systems contain embedded operational models that are used to predict responses and make decisions in real time. These models can be refined adaptively, in their operating environment, by comparing actual responses to predictions. Examples include on-line real-time network management systems for wireless networks-, switched telecommunications networks, computer networks, etc. These models are used to support critical complex decisions. In many cases, the same models used to design the system are put into the end product. To support these expanding requirements, PSI uses a new product,VisiSoft. This product uses the same CAD approach for building and supporting software as it does for modeling and simulation. This combination allows PSI and its clients to model their control system software in a detailed simulation of the operational environment and then automatically convert the model directly to executable software. Complex computer programming interfaces have been eliminated by the CAD approach. This has improved productivity for software by whole numbers, cutting the time and cost to build and support complex systems by 50% and more. PSI
gaining leadership recognition for both its modeling and system engineering
contributions to the fields of communications and control. To the best of our knowledge, PSI has
built the world’s largest simulations of communication systems. The company is now expanding its efforts
to address commercial markets for modeling, simulation, and the development
of real-time control systems, including models of trading markets to support
investment decisions in the financial industry. |
